We made multiple mistakes with bedtime. To start with, he slept in our room/our bed until just recently (just turned 6). He had severe eczema as a baby, so we kept him close by so we could stop him from scratching himself until he bled, which turned into him climbing into bed with us. If you have kids, you want to make sure they’re safe, because that’s kinda your job. If they’re always hanging out at a friend’s house, you don’t know anything about what they’re doing, whether they’re eating healthy food, or whether those friends (or their parents or other people you don’t know who might be there) Read more

And the cost of moving is now exacerbated even further by a new mortgage potentially several points higher than what you currently have! We refinanced our small home in Encinitas last year, and with the current market/rates/taxes we’re probably staying put for a quite while... But there are worse places to be! Read more

Thank you, and thank you for explaining. I have been supporting y’all by NOT clicking through to anything while you were on strike, and with the timing of this, I am sure I am not the only one who needed clarification.   Glad to see y’all won, BTW.

I’m really sorry you had to learn all that stuff late. I was also raised by a hoarder and was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to keep up a house in an acceptable way. Not being taught to take care of yourself and your stuff really makes you feel like you don’t have any power. But here you are, figuring it out! Read more

Oh, they’re in Texas too.  If you’ve never seen them then you lack what they feast upon which is usually the larva of silverfish, roaches, bedbugs, etc. But they’re also stupid fast, so maybe you just didn’t hear the rush of wind as they dart for cover.  Fast like my cat had a hard time catching it fast.

They often find their way into the kitchen sink with no way out. We used to kill them outright but have switched to making them climb onto a piece of junk mail, running to the back door while screaming, and flicking them outside. Maybe next time I’ll flick them behind the washing machine or something. Read more
